All-new material categories hit the Megascans library
We’re super happy to bring you a taste of a new range of highly-requested scans, including hundreds of surface imperfections, 2×2 meter urban surfaces, street decals, tree barks, hard-surface base materials (such as metals, plastics, and rubbers), tileable displacement scans, scan-based brushes and much, much more. Let’s dive into all the new content types!
Clean Hard-surface Base Materials
We’ve introduced the first small sample of a wide range of upcoming clean base and precious metals, rubbers and plastics, all 2×2 m in size for maximum coverage and with highly accurate specular values captured from precise IOR measurements.
Metals are one of our most anticipated categories. Here are just a few of the ones ready to go in the library:
Surface Imperfections
Surface imperfection scans are great for quickly adding realistic, high-fidelity detail to a material by using them as a detail roughness map. They can also be used as masks and to create brand new materials from scratch. Nearly all surface imperfections are available in resolutions up to 8192×8192 and cover 2×2 m surface area.
Base Materials + Imperfections
The combination of our imperfections with these new materials will add unparalleled depth and detail to your renders.
Tileable Displacements
These carefully crafted displacement maps are created using real-world scanned data and are highly modular, allowing you to easily add realistic structure to your surfaces or sculpts.
Scan-Based Paint Brushes
These new super high-resolution alpha brushes open up a whole new range of possibilities for artists. Import them to your favorite painting software and let loose! These brushes are ideal for both texturing applications and illustration purposes.
Here’s an example of the new brushes in action, by Quixel Artist Billy Lundevall (yes, he’s a little intense).
Urban Surfaces and Street Decals
Join Wiktor Öhman as he goes over basic techniques for setting up a realistic street scene in UE4 using Megascans:
Megascans also presents the first batch of highly modular 2×2 meter street surface scans, all with identical coverage and texel density for maximum ease of use.
The Megascans library is an industry leader in scanned materials based on real-world data; in sheer volume, in the breadth of variety, and for unparalleled quality.
We have a lot in the works and are excited to present more each and every day.
